Getting to the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Finals is an annual tradition for the DLSU Lady Spikers. With 6 titles and 3 runner-up finishes in the last 10 years, the team is usually expected to be in the finals. But last Season, the Lady Spikers were upset by UST to figure out of the championship for the first time since Season 70.
So what can be expected from the Lady Spikers?
The DLSU Lady Spikers team is known for its resiliency. With Tiamzon, Saga, and team captain Ogunsanya still on the roster, they are expected to lead the team back into contention, hopefully to the Finals, and to bring back the crown to Taft.
It won’t be easy. The team lost Luna, Ipac, Cheng and Clemente from the roster, but the upside is that there are big rookies who could fill the vacancy. Tall players like Gagate, Sharma, and Cruz are expected to bolster the frontline.
Still mentored by the most successful UAAP women’s volleyball coach of the decade, coach Ramil De Jesus, we can be sure that the will figure prominently in the fight for the championship. DLSU will always be one of the top contenders in the UAAP Women’s volleyball.
One area they should focus on is their killer instinct, which seemed to be missing last season. Their blocking and floor defense also seemed to be less effective. But knowing Coach Ramil, he’s already addressed these areas during his off-season training.
CAN THE SENIORS STEP UP AND PROVIDE THE NEEDED LEADERSHIP FOR THE TEAM? CAN THEY ALL BE CONSISTENT THROUGHOUT THE SEASON AND BRING BACK THE CROWN?
We’ll know in a few weeks.
